荣誉学院 程序 and Curriculum

荣誉学院 at Chicago State is designed for undergraduate students who embrace the chance to work hard, read more, take risks, and challenge conventional wisdom. 荣誉学院 program provides students with the tools they need to pursue an ambitious course of study while working with other 荣誉学院 students who challenge and support each other to develop a deep understanding of the world and their place 在这.

 

荣誉学院 程序 is composed of two parts:

1. an enriched, interdisciplinary general 教育课程 taken primarily during students’ first and second years at the university (known as the 荣誉学院 Core 课程)
2. a series of research and fieldwork focused seminars and colloquia

All of the Honors courses have been designed especially for the 荣誉学院 by 教他们的教师.

The Honors Core Curriculum courses are designed to challenge students by providing exposure to some of Chicago State’s best and most exciting faculty, while introducing important topics, issues, and methods of inquiry across disciplines. 通过它们, students develop and sharpen their reading, writing, mathematical, scientific, analytical, 沟通技巧. The Honors seminars and colloquia are designed to develop students’ research and presentation skills, linking their 荣誉学院 program with 他们的专业.

The 荣誉学院核心课程 is the foundation of the 荣誉学院 program. The 荣誉学院核心课程 satisfies a portion of the university general education requirements through specially designed interdisciplinary courses. 荣誉学院 Core Curriculum is organized around two-course sequences in four major 区域 of inquiry: English composition, mathematics and natural sciences, humanities and fine arts, and 社会科学.

学生 should note that these Honors courses only fulfill a portion of their total university general education requirements. 学生 complete the remainder of their university general education requirements through standard general education coursework. Some colleges or degree programs may have general education requirements in addition to those fulfilled by the 荣誉学院核心课程 and the university general 教育课程. More information can be found under the appropriate college sections in the undergraduate catalog.

 

荣誉学院 Seminars and Colloquia

In addition to the 荣誉学院核心课程, students in the 荣誉学院 are required to complete a series of seminars and colloquia. 这些研讨会和座谈会 provide 荣誉学院 students with practical skills and experiences needed for them to engage in high quality academic research and creative activities, as well as connect students with hands-on experiential learning in academic, career, and community service 区域.

荣誉学院 程序 of Study and Completion of 荣誉学院 程序

The entire 荣誉学院 程序 includes the 荣誉学院核心课程, the 荣誉学院 Seminars and Colloquia, and a campus / community service requirement. 学生 who complete the entire 荣誉学院 program and maintain good standing in the 荣誉学院 are eligible to be awarded University Honors on their transcript and diploma upon completion of their undergraduate degree program. 有两种不同的 pathways for students to complete their 荣誉学院 program, depending on whether students enter the 荣誉学院 as first-time students or as transfer students.

荣誉学院 students meet regularly with the 荣誉学院 Dean to discuss their progress in the 荣誉学院 program and ensure that they are taking the required courses to complete their curriculum plan.
